A Village That Kept Rebuilding Its Own Downtown

Barrington was incorporated on February 16, 1865, and named after Great Barrington, Massachusetts, the hometown of some of its earliest settlers. What makes Barrington’s downtown distinctive today is largely the result of disaster: a string of fires in 1890, 1893, and 1898 destroyed much of the original wood-frame business district, and the merchants who rebuilt chose brick and stone instead — the same brick storefronts that still line the historic downtown blocks around the Metra tracks.

1865

Barrington is officially incorporated as a village, named for Great Barrington, MA.

1890s

Three separate downtown fires push merchants to rebuild in brick and stone — the look that still defines the district.

1927

The Catlow Theater opens downtown with a Prairie School interior designed by Alfonso Iannelli, once serving dinner alongside the picture show.

Today

A Metra Union Pacific Northwest Line station keeps Barrington a working commuter village into downtown Chicago.

About Barrington

Barrington is home to roughly 10,700 residents and sits across both Lake and Cook counties, about 35 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. It’s governed as its own village, with local information available through the official Village of Barrington government site. Locals split their time between the Catlow Theater marquee downtown, the Metra platform for a commute into the Loop, and a patchwork of quiet residential streets that spread out from the historic core in every direction.

Distance and drive time are approximate — actual travel time can shift with traffic on I-90 and Route 14, especially during Metra rush hours or Tollway construction.

Built for How Barrington Actually Travels

Child car seat available for Barrington airport rides

Car Seats, Booked Ahead

Add a car seat for $10 when you book — availability is limited, and unlike Uber or Lyft in Chicago, we don’t leave it to chance. It’s worth knowing what Illinois’ Child Passenger Protection Act actually requires, too.

Terminal 5 Pickups, Done Right

We’re authorized for direct Terminal 5 curbside pickups — gates 5D or 5E, inner lane — something rideshare apps still can’t offer. Your driver tracks your flight and messages you when it’s time to head to the vestibule.

Live Tracking, No Guesswork

You’ll get texts 24 hours out, 1 hour out, when your driver leaves, and when they arrive — each with a live map link, so a Barrington pickup never means standing outside guessing.

Pay However Suits You

Credit or debit card, cash, Cash App, Venmo, or Zelle — plus corporate billing accounts for Barrington businesses that book regularly.

Barrington to O’Hare — Common Questions

Can you pick up near the Metra station or right around the Catlow Theater downtown?

Yes — pickups near the Metra platform, the Catlow Theater marquee, or anywhere else in the historic downtown blocks are routine. Just give us the closest cross street when you book.

Does the $61 rate change depending on whether I’m on the Lake County or Cook County side of the village?

No. The flat rate is $61 anywhere inside the village limits of Barrington, regardless of which county line your street happens to fall on.

I take the Metra into the city most days — can I book just a one-way drop-off at O’Hare instead of a round trip?

Of course. Most of our Barrington bookings are one-way, whether that’s a drop-off at O’Hare or a pickup after you land.

Can I get a car seat for a flight out of Barrington?

Yes, for $10 extra, though availability is limited — reserve it when you book the ride rather than asking the day of.

Do you also serve the surrounding villages like South Barrington or Lake Zurich?

Yes — we run flat-rate service across the wider Barrington area, including South Barrington, Barrington Hills, Lake Zurich, Inverness, Deer Park, Palatine, and Hoffman Estates, each priced on its own.

Are you authorized to pick up directly at O’Hare’s Terminal 5?

Yes. O’Hare Airport Taxi LLC is authorized for direct Terminal 5 pickups, something Uber and Lyft cannot do. Our drivers wait at gates 5D or 5E, inner lane, and track your flight so they’re ready when you land.
