About Arlington Heights, Illinois
Arlington Heights is one of the larger suburbs we serve, with around 77,700 residents in Cook County — you can find the current village government at the official vah.com site. It was originally known as Dunton before taking the name Arlington Heights in 1874, and it incorporated as a village in 1887. Two Metra stations on the Union Pacific Northwest Line still run through town today, and downtown Evergreen Avenue has grown into one of the busier restaurant-and-bar strips in the northwest suburbs.
The village is also home to the old Arlington International Racecourse site, a thoroughbred track that opened in 1927 and once hosted the Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships. Since the track closed, the Chicago Bears have been in on-and-off talks about building a new stadium there — as of now the plans are still being worked out, but it’s easily the most-watched piece of real estate in Arlington Heights.
