Crete Taxi to O’Hare Airport
Once the gateway to Chicagoland’s biggest racetrack, Crete is now our gateway between Will County and O’Hare International Airport — one fixed price, no meter running against you.
Riding out of Crete, Illinois
Crete was platted in 1836 by three Vermont transplants — Dyantha Wood, Willard Wood, and Gary Neal — who first called the settlement Wood’s Corner before the village took the name Crete. Today, according to the Village of Crete’s official site, the community is home to roughly 8,465 residents (2020 Census) spread across 9.5 square miles near the Illinois–Indiana line, about 30 miles south of the Loop.
Crete has carried the nickname “Gateway to the Southland” for generations, and for most of the 20th century that gateway led straight to a grandstand. Whether you’re catching an early flight out of Crete’s quiet residential streets or flying home from a business trip, our drivers track your flight and keep the $128 flat rate fixed regardless of exactly where in the village you’re picked up.
The track that put Crete on the map
Just south of the village, a 1,050-acre parcel opened as Lincoln Fields Racetrack in 1926 — Miss Rosedale won the very first race run there. Renamed Balmoral Park in 1955, it switched from thoroughbred to harness racing in the 1960s and, on June 26, 1988, hosted North America’s first World Driving Championship, drawing harness drivers from 14 countries to Crete. The track closed for good in December 2015, but for nearly 90 years, “going to the races” in this part of Will County meant going to Crete.
What’s included from Crete
Car seats, when you need them
Uber and Lyft can’t guarantee a car seat in Chicago. We can, for $10 extra — availability is limited, so reserve it with your booking rather than asking last minute. See the Illinois Child Passenger Protection Act for the legal requirements.
Sedan, SUV, minivan, or black car
Choose the vehicle that fits your trip — the $128 rate from Crete stays the same no matter which one you pick, or how many passengers are riding.
Direct Terminal 5 pickup
We’re authorized for direct Terminal 5 pickups at gates 5D/5E, inner lane — something rideshare apps can’t do. Your driver tracks your flight and meets you there.
Real-time tracking & texts
Automatic SMS updates 24 hours out, 1 hour out, when your driver is en route, and when they’ve arrived — each with live map tracking.

Frequently asked questions
Is it true Crete used to have a major racetrack?
Yes — Balmoral Park (originally Lincoln Fields, opened in 1926) sat just south of the village for nearly 90 years and hosted thoroughbred and harness racing, including North America’s first World Driving Championship in 1988. It closed permanently in 2015, but it’s still the thing longtime Crete residents mention first.
Can you pick us up anywhere in Crete, not just near the old track?
Yes — every neighborhood in the village, from Exchange Street to the newer subdivisions near Balmoral Woods, is a standard pickup point at the same flat $128 rate to O’Hare.
Crete covers almost 10 square miles — does the price change depending on where I’m picked up?
No — $128 is the flat rate for any pickup within Crete village limits, regardless of the exact address.
Can I book a car seat for a flight out of Crete?
Yes, for $10 extra, though availability is limited — reserve it when you book rather than asking last minute.
Do you also serve Beecher, Frankfort, Peotone, or Park Forest?
Yes — we run flat-rate service across this part of Will and Cook County, including Beecher, Frankfort, Peotone, and Park Forest, each priced separately.
Are you authorized to pick up directly at O’Hare’s Terminal 5?
Yes. O’Hare Airport Taxi LLC is authorized for direct Terminal 5 pickups, something Uber and Lyft cannot do. Our drivers wait at gates 5D or 5E, inner lane, and track your flight so they’re ready when you land.
