About Bartlett
Bartlett is home to roughly 41,000 residents spread mostly across Cook and DuPage counties, with a small slice reaching into Kane County. The village traces back to 1873, when Luther Bartlett donated 40 acres for a depot on the newly arrived Chicago and Pacific Railroad — that original 1873 depot still stands today as the Bartlett Depot Museum. The village incorporated in 1891, and its population barely changed for decades until the suburban boom of the 1950s and ’60s, when it grew more than threefold in a single ten-year stretch. Bartlett has also become a destination in its own right. The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir on Illinois Route 59 — a 30-acre complex built of hand-carved stone and marble — draws visitors from across the country, many of whom fly directly into O’Hare to reach it. Closer to the highway, Villa Olivia runs golf in the summer and skiing, tubing, and snowboarding in the winter, making Bartlett a year-round day-trip stop as much as a place people call home.
