Getting from Glendale Heights to O’Hare, Without the Guesswork

Glendale Heights is a DuPage County village of roughly 33,176 residents, built almost entirely from scratch starting in 1958. Before that, the land was mostly farmland dotted with a handful of scattered subdivisions. From Glendale Heights, O’Hare is a straightforward 17.4-mile drive — usually around 29 minutes via North Avenue and I-355 — and we track every flight so a schedule change on your end never turns into a wasted wait on ours.

The village grew fast: developers Charles and Harold Reskin of Midland Enterprises bought two farms on Glen Ellyn Road in 1958 and started building houses. By the summer of 1959, the young community had just 104 residents, enough to file for incorporation on June 16 of that year — the court officially organized the village on July 13, 1959. It was first named simply “Glendale,” a nod to its location between Glen Ellyn and Bloomingdale, but had to change its name to Glendale Heights in March 1960 after discovering another Glendale already existed downstate. By 1970, the population had already rocketed to over 11,000.

The House the Founder Painted Purple

On Windy Point Drive sits a 19th-century farmhouse with an unusual backstory. Built in 1888 on Bloomingdale Road, it served as an ordinary family farmhouse for over 75 years — the Baier family owned it and its 73-acre farm from 1920 onward. In the 1970s, village founder Harold Reskin moved his own Midland Enterprises offices into the house and, at his wife Merle’s request, had the whole thing painted purple. After Harold passed away in 1996, Merle donated the farmhouse to the village in his memory. It was relocated to 311 Windy Point Drive in 2000, restored inside and out by 2009, and today operates as the Glendale Heights Historic House museum, with the village still offering summer tours of the building that quite literally started life as this town’s blueprint.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it true Glendale Heights has a purple historic house?

Yes — the Glendale Heights Historic House, an 1888 farmhouse now at 311 Windy Point Drive, was painted purple in the 1970s by village founder Harold Reskin at his wife Merle’s request. It’s now a village-run museum with summer tours.

Does the $53 rate change depending on which neighborhood I’m in?

No — $53 is the flat sedán rate for any pickup within Glendale Heights village limits, regardless of the exact address. It does change if you choose an SUV, minivan, or black car instead of a sedán.

Can you pick us up near Glendale Lakes Golf Club or the business parks?

Yes — the golf club area, business parks, and residential neighborhoods throughout the village are all standard pickup points.

Can I book a car seat for a flight out of Glendale Heights?

Yes, for $10 extra, though availability is limited — reserve it when you book rather than asking last minute.

Do you also serve Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, or Addison?

Yes — we run flat-rate service across DuPage County, including Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Addison, and Glen Ellyn, each priced separately from Glendale Heights.

Are you authorized to pick up directly at O’Hare’s Terminal 5?

Yes. O’Hare Airport Taxi LLC is authorized for direct Terminal 5 pickups, something Uber and Lyft cannot do. Our drivers wait at gates 5D or 5E, inner lane, and track your flight so they’re ready when you land.
