Facing possible annexation by neighboring Streamwood, the Cook County portion of Ontarioville incorporated as the Village of Hanover Park on August 14, 1958, starting with roughly 305 residents. What followed was explosive growth — the population hit 11,916 by 1970 and nearly tripled again to 28,850 by 1980, at one point making Hanover Park Chicago’s fastest-growing suburb. The remaining piece of old Ontarioville was formally absorbed into the village in 1982.
