Cloistered means exactly what it sounds like: a life of prayer and near-total separation from the outside world, in a quiet pocket of a rapidly suburbanizing Cook County. When the community’s numbers declined, the remaining sisters relocated to Roswell, New Mexico — and the order didn’t simply vanish from the area. It returned to the Archdiocese of Chicago in 2000 and, in 2003, settled permanently just a few miles away in neighboring Palos Park, where it continues today.
