Book Your RideAbout La Grange — The Suburb That Built Four Arches to Outdo Its Neighbor
La Grange formally incorporated on June 11, 1879, part of the wave of westward suburban growth that followed the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The village grew quickly into a planned, tree-lined community, and today its historic core — more than 1,000 buildings constructed between 1870 and 1930 — is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the La Grange Village Historic District.
One of the district’s standout landmarks is easy to miss unless you know the story behind it: the limestone Stone Avenue/La Grange train depot, built in 1901 for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. A smaller two-arch stone depot had already gone up a few years earlier in nearby Kenilworth — so La Grange’s builders doubled it, giving their own station four stone arches instead of two. The depot was designated a village landmark in 1971 and is still an active Metra BNSF Line stop today.
The historic district also holds a quieter architectural secret: the Robert Emmond House at 109 8th Avenue, built in 1892 with an octagonal turret and a sharply pointed roof. It’s one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s earliest “bootleg” houses — designed on the side while he was still under exclusive contract to Louis Sullivan, technically in violation of his employment agreement. Recently restored, it’s recognized today by the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it true La Grange’s train depot was built to outdo a neighboring suburb?
That’s the local story — a smaller two-arch stone depot had already been built in nearby Kenilworth, so when La Grange built its own limestone station in 1901, it was designed with four stone arches instead of two. The depot still serves as an active Metra stop today.
Does the $56 rate change depending on which part of La Grange I’m in?
No — $56 is the flat sedan rate for any pickup within La Grange village limits, regardless of the exact address. It does change if you choose an SUV, minivan, or black car instead of a sedan.
How long does the drive from La Grange to O’Hare usually take?
Published estimates put it at roughly 16 miles and 20–30 minutes under typical conditions, longer during weekday rush hour or winter weather.
Can I book a car seat for a flight out of La Grange?
Yes, for $10 extra, though availability is limited — reserve it when you book rather than asking last minute.
Do you also serve Western Springs, Brookfield, or Countryside?
Yes — we run flat-rate service across this part of the western suburbs, including Western Springs, Brookfield, and Countryside, each priced separately from La Grange.
Are you authorized to pick up directly at O’Hare’s Terminal 5?
Yes. O’Hare Airport Taxi LLC is authorized for direct Terminal 5 pickups, something Uber and Lyft cannot do. Our drivers wait at gates 5D or 5E, inner lane, and track your flight so they’re ready when you land.
