Book Your Ride Now →The Mill Town on the Fox River
Montgomery grew up around a river, a historic mill, and a name change — and the mill is still standing.
Montgomery sits on the banks of the Fox River, and the river is where its story begins. The village’s best-known landmark is the Gray–Watkins Mill, a turbine-powered flour mill dating to about 1853. According to Wikipedia and Enjoy Aurora, it kept grinding grain on the river for decades, was later used for other industrial purposes, was renovated in 1976, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Today the building at 211 N. River Street hosts dining and events with views of the Fox River.
The village was incorporated in the 1850s, and its name has its own story: the settlement was first known as Graystown, after its founder, before it was renamed Montgomery for the New York county that many of its early settlers had come from. Three separate sources — Wikipedia, a Kane County history, and Business View — agree on that origin.
Whether you’re leaving from the riverfront, a newer neighborhood on the Kane–Kendall County line, or anywhere in between, a flat rate makes the 40-plus-mile run to O’Hare easy to plan: you’ll know the price before you leave home.
The renaming reflects the New York roots of many of the village’s early settlers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why was Montgomery originally called Graystown?
The settlement was first known as Graystown, after its founder, and was later renamed Montgomery for the New York county that many of its early settlers came from.
Does the $85 rate change depending on where in Montgomery I’m picked up?
No — $85 is the flat sedan rate for any pickup within Montgomery, regardless of the exact address. It does change if you choose an SUV, minivan, or black car instead of a sedan.
How long does the drive from Montgomery to O’Hare usually take?
Published estimates put the trip at roughly 40–45 miles and about 50–70 minutes depending on traffic — longer during weekday rush hour or winter weather. The usual route follows I-88 east to the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) north, then the I-190 airport spur.
Can I book a car seat for a flight out of Montgomery?
Yes, for $10 extra, though availability is limited — reserve it when you book rather than asking last minute. See Illinois’ Child Passenger Protection Act for the state’s current requirements.
Do you also serve Aurora, Oswego, or Sugar Grove?
Yes — we run flat-rate service across the Fox Valley, including Aurora, Oswego, Sugar Grove, Batavia, Naperville, and Plano, each priced separately from Montgomery.
Are you authorized to pick up directly at O’Hare’s Terminal 5?
Yes. O’Hare Airport Taxi LLC is authorized for direct Terminal 5 pickups, something Uber and Lyft cannot do. Our drivers wait at gates 5D or 5E, inner lane, and track your flight so they’re ready when you land.
