Antioch is a village of about 14,600 people in Antioch Township, Lake County, right along the Wisconsin border — the current village government is at the official antioch.il.gov site. Settlers arrived in the 1830s, and in 1843 the growing community took the biblical name “Antioch” and started its first school.
The village grew as a lakeside getaway once rail service to Chicago opened in 1886, and it’s still built around the Chain O’Lakes waterway today — boating, fishing, and lake houses are part of everyday life here, not just a summer novelty.
